Aaron, Moses’ bother and commander-in-chief of the fleeing civilian population is beside himself. He cannot get the people to move at any kind of pace. Women, children, goats and a few ornery camels slow the horde to a shambling pace. In the distance behind them he sees a cloud of dust raised by the army chasing them. He looks at Moses with fear in his eyes. Moses smiles back through his beard and says, “Don’t worry. I have a plan.” “You seem pretty confident about holding them, Moe,” says Aaron. The Egyptian army is in chaos. “Keep moving!” screams the commander as the men stop at the water’s edge and crowd around the little terra-cotta box on the beach. Armor clanking, he strides over to see what the problem is and promptly falls to his knees when he sees the primitive computer. “What is this?” he cries. One of the men who has figured things out says, “This is online gambling, sire. Take out some coins and put them in that little slot there. Then choose a number between 1 and 36. Now spin that wheel. If your number comes up you will be rich, sire.” The commander stuffs a handful of coins into the slot. “I choose my birthday, the 23rd of Akhet. Now I spin?” The men watch with bated breath. Number 23 comes up and they cheer wildly. “I quit! I’m outa here! I’m not chasing those people anywhere! See you all back at the Nile.” Another man saved by online gambling. The army drowned when the waters closed over it. Posted on: June 23, 2007
