I had two customers in my store in the mall yesterday. They came in together, asked me lots of questions, touched the goods, mumbled about not having any money and left. Today, so far - and its now 2:00 pm, not a single person has come through the door. I keep thinking that I should give up on being a shopkeeper, pull out my laptop and gamble online in full view of everyone who is walking around the mall, but I end up saying things like, well if no one comes in by 2, I’ll start gambling online. It’s 4:00 pm now and still no customers. I close the door and hang the small notice saying “Closed” on the door, pull out my laptop and log into the online casino. I go straight to the Texas Hold’em table and join a game that’s in progress. After all these hours and days without human contact I’m looking for an action game. The video game in the online casino has a live dealer making it very friendly and making the players feel as though they are sitting in a real casino. The dealer looks at me and I ante up my pre-flop bet, pushing a $50 chip into the betting area. I am dealt a pair of 4’s and wonder if I should play or fold. I decide to play. I was looking for action, remember? I raise another $50 chip and wait as the dealer goes around the table. Then the dealer deals the flop but there is nothing of any interest there for me. A couple of the other players smile. I may as well continue, so I bet another $50 and wait for the turn. What do you know? The 4 of diamonds! Aha, now I’m looking good. I bet another $50 and wait impatiently for the betting to go around the table. There are four players left in the game. Here it comes --- the 4 of clubs! Unbeatable! The entire jackpot is pushed over to my side of the table. It’s easy to make a decision now. I’m staying in the online casino and the jewelry store and the great depression can stay out of my life.
