“The whole year you gamble online at home. Now we come on holiday and you do the same thing! Why don’t you give it a break? Have a change! We’re on holiday after all.” I smile and log in to my favorite online casino, the Silver Spanner. I choose roulette. I am after big money today, I want to surprise my wife and show her that online gambling can be a most profitable pastime, at home or on holiday. We are holidaying at a resort on the Red Sea, rugged purple mountains behind us, blue sea in front and blue sky overhead. “Where would you like to be next week this time?” I ask her.

“On a cruise ship in the Caribbean where you can’t play with that laptop of yours,” she answers. “Right, dear, give me a few minutes and I’ll see if I can make your wish come true.” She sits up at this and watches me. I check my account balance in the online casino. It is very healthy and I decide to splurge and play with $50 chips, a major betting event. I take 5 of these chips and place them on family member birthday dates, 2, 11, 15, 16 and 23. I click to spin the wheel and wait impatiently. Then I hear the clickety-click as the ivory ball jumps over the slots and I watch as it falls into number 11.

This brings me a net profit of about $1,500. I leave the win on number 11 and spread another 4 chips on the table. “You forgot to pick up your winnings,” says my wife gazing at the laptop screen. “Let it ride,” I mutter and I click to spin the wheel. Did I know in my bones that number 11 would come up again? The odds on a single number in roulette, casino or online, are 35 to 1. I had just won a bit over $50,000. “You serious about the Caribbean?” I ask. My wife nods. I stand up. “Where are you going now?” she asks. “To call a travel agent and make a booking for that cruise liner. You know how quickly good cruises sell out!”
