According to Max’s wife, he suffered a bout of double pneumonia and spent almost two months in the lung ward of our local hospital, connected up to oxygen, water, food and everything else required to keep him going. When he was finally discharged it was to a rehabilitation center where he will be for another month while he gathers strength to go back into the real world. He was not impressed when I walked in carrying my laptop, and made some rude remarks about me always being on the job. Not this time, I told him. I am going to give you a rehabilitation treat in an online casino. This is designed to get your blood flowing and your mind working again. What’s your game? He chose roulette. I logged in to the Silver Spanner online casino and as soon as I had roulette up on the screen I handed the mouse to Max. He immediately placed two five dollar chips on his birthday, number eighteen. He won and shouted out in a loud voice that now he had real money, three hundred and fifty dollars, to play with. Other patients in the ward heard his shout and scrambled out of their beds to come over and watch Max gambling in the online casino. In no time there was quite crowd standing around Max’s bed all trying to see the screen of my laptop. “I will change to craps,” announced Max, “and then everyone will be able to bet. You tell me what you want to bet and I will do it for you,” explained Max to the crowd which kept growing larger. Now there were a couple of ward nurses and a doctor involved, all happy to be doing a little online gambling. Some of the patients won big money in the online casino that day. And a couple of the others didn’t do quite as well. The best result came from the doctor who told me today that the center is gong to buy a laptop and put up a large screen in the ward.
