It’s a good question. No responsible adult would expose a child to online gambling, but at the same time, no responsible online gambler would pass up good waiting time and not gamble online if he has his laptop handy and can find a wireless connection. So I find myself with a 2 hour time-lag while grandson swims laps in the hopes of making it to the Olympic Games in some far distant year.

There is a coffee shop near the pool and it is full of parents and grandparents in limbo, all in ‘waiting mode’. And guess what? Many of the tables are sporting laptops and a quick tour shows me that most of the laptops are logged into online casinos. Welcome to online gamblers’ heaven! One table in the far corner has a ring of men around it all yelling and cheering. I wander over to look. A game of online craps is in progress and there is some real live betting going on – the small coffee table is covered with coins and notes of all denominations. I watch for a while and then decide to play my own game. 

I choose online Baccarat for a change. It is a fast and furious game, favored by the high rollers in the casinos of Monte Carlo. This is the game that Ian Fleming liked to play and which put James Bond firmly on the map as a gambler. I am dressed in jeans and a tee shirt. James would be in a single-breasted dinner-jacket coat over his heavy silk evening shirt with a thin, double-ended, black satin tie. I remember how James disdainfully tossed a four and a five making an unbeatable nine on the table in the game against le Chiffre. I can play Baccarat like James - I wonder if he too has to baby sit from time to time?
