Stories from an online gambling writer

I am a gambling writer. In the old days I used to take a notebook and a pencil and leg it from one casino to another. Inside I would look for a corner that had enough light to let me see what I was writing. I would settle down and make notes about what was going on, the action, the betting, the crowds, the clothes, the fancy women, the high rollers. Back in my office I would type up the material and submit it to the editors of magazines that ran gambling columns. My casino reviews were well-known and I like to think that many people visited casinos because of my great reviews. That’s all gone out of the window. What goes today is online gambling.

I do everything from one seat. No more exercising walking between casinos or even between the tables in the casino. The walk is from the bedroom to the study. The only party of the body that gets any exercising is my index finger clicking a mouse. Online gambling is an ‘at-home’ or ‘in-house’ activity.

My actual occupation has hardly changed, I still write about the various online casinos, the action, the betting and the uncooperative dealers. I write about how to transfer your money to an online casino. I write about how to cash in at the end of a session and how to withdraw the winnings.

Mostly I write about how to check the online casino you choose to play in and how to make sure it is honest and will pay your winnings when you decide to take them. I warn would-be online gamblers to make sure about every facet of online gambling. Last week I was commissioned by a gambling supervisory group in a European country to write a series of articles about the hidden dangers of online gambling and how to make sure that you do not become addicted. Online gambling is a private and solitary activity, so it is easy to become addicted, to grit one’s teeth and swear to win back last night’s losses before your wife finds out that you blew the housekeeping money for the next three months.
