We are making major alterations to the Golden Acres Retirement Home because the old place is in desperate need of a facelift. We have put in new kitchens and new bathrooms to all the apartments, thrown out all the grubby worn carpets and replaced them with ceramic floor tiles. We have replaced all the rotten wooden windows with aluminum and done a great painting job. Another two months and the place will be like new. Now we are busy working on the public areas, the dining room, the reception area and lounge and the library, and we’ve started converting the old card room into a new ‘social room’. The residents are ecstatic about the upgrade. Guess what they are most excited about? The ‘social room’. It will have bank of computers along the west wall. And today I found out that it’s not the thought of email that interests them; it’s that they will be able to get into the online gambling world. “Just think of the bingo and roulette,” said the little old lady with the blue hair. “Why, we’ll be able to play for real money!” We made a bad mistake of hooking up one computer as a test model and a few seconds after the screen came to life, we found a line of residents patiently waiting to log on. “We want to try it!” they cried, “to make sure we can log onto an online casino!” And they did. Since then, that computer has been permanently logged into an online casino and at any hour of the day or night there is someone stabbing away with the mouse or clicking away on the keyboard as they try and pile up credits in the online casino. We installed a dozen computers this afternoon and already there are notices up on the boards advertising the first Golden Acres Retirement Home online casino tournament tonight.
