We are spending a few weeks in Los Angeles, touring around and seeing the sights. “Let’s go over to Hollywood and watch the stars arriving for the Oscars,” suggested Susan. We drove across the city to the Kodak Theatre to find that a couple of thousand people had the same idea and were already standing and sitting around and waiting in the street at the corner of Hollywood and Highland. The Kodak Theater is directly connected to the historic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. We found a spot where we could sit and I unfolded the 2 beach chairs that we had brought with us. Once comfortably seated I unzipped my laptop bag, logged in and went directly to the online casino. Roulette, I decided. I had to gamble online with a game that allowed me to stop and start as and when I liked. Roulette would allow me to watch the actors arriving and then to continue gambling as they walked along the red carpet and disappeared into the theater. This is a special occasion so I decided to set my bankroll at $5,000 and play with $50 chips. I placed one chip on my birthday, No. 23 and one on Susan’s, No. 15 and span the wheel. Nothing. I tried again, using 2 random numbers, 17 and 9. Again a blank. A huge black limo pulled in, the back door opened and Brad Pitt got out with Angelina Jolie. The crowd clapped, shouted and yelled and got back smiles and waves. I placed $50 chips on numbers 3 and 21 and span the wheel. Another limo drew up and I tore my eyes away from the roulette wheel which was still spinning. Number 3! I won something at last in the online casino! Susan was nudging me in the ribs with her elbow. “Look who that is!” she squealed. I looked up from the online casino to see Mickey Rooney! Wow, this guy, short as he is, has had one of the longest movie careers of any actor and he looks as fit as a fiddle. He is almost 90 years old. He waved at me and so he should have, I just won about $1,500 while I was waiting for him. Posted on: March 18, 2009
