Online gambling ought to be an Olympic sport

It just doesn’t stop. Here in the heart of the third world we can tune into 11 sports channels. That’s a reasonable selection in anyone’s book, right? Wrong – what it means is that I have a choice of 11 different soccer games somewhere on the planet. And if by chance it’s not a soccer game, then it’s a muscle bound woman from some East European country with eyes bulging as she tries to send a javelin into orbit. Imagine if Texas Hold’em was an Olympic sport. A table with 6 or 8 finalists with green shades and dark glasses, betting, raising and doubling, not for money, but for their country’s honor. A game of poker does not have to be just online gambling, it could easily be a refined sport.

But there is a strong connection between online gambling and the Olympics and football, after all. It happens when one overdoses on the TV.  I now simply turn down the sound to zero, fire up my laptop and use the silence to concentrate on a game in an online casino. Why, I may even pull in some much needed cash while the players are out there on the field doing their best to kill each other. At least there is no blood in my game. I find that blackjack goes well with soccer but I have to play the slots when the track and field events are on, due to the huge amount of distraction from the TV.

In the very first hand I played yesterday I was dealt two 10’s, a blackjack player’s dream. I turned both of them into blackjacks, a rare event. The rest of the afternoon was quiet with few exciting moments, but I played well and without counting my chips or checking my credit in the online casino, I was sure I was well ahead. It was only when I finally cashed out at about nine in the evening that I took stock. I had won over a thousand dollars. Not bad for an “afternoon at the races”!
