I look forward to these days of cooking. The temperature outside is a few degrees above freezing, the old wood burning boiler is clattering away in the corner of the kitchen and the table top is loaded with the ingredients we need for the soup making. I rush into the den and come back with my laptop. I fire it up, light the gas on the cooking range and log into an online casino. “Ready to start!” I announce. My wife pushes half a dozen onions over to me and I begin peeling and chopping them. When that’s done I hand her the bowl and she starts frying the onions in the big pot. This is where the gambling starts. I click into a roulette game and select $5 chips to play with. I drop a handful of chips on the board, add one on the Red and one on the Evens and spin the wheel. 27 Red. I collect on the Reds and lose everything else. A bag of carrots comes sliding my way and I begin the peeling and chopping process on these. The carrots go rather slowly and are followed immediately by celery, turnips and potatoes, all of which are all slow. There is no gambling online during this part of the operation. I get back to the computer and the online casino after I empty a couple of bags of beans and a tin of tomato paste into the pot. I leave a chip on the Red and add one to the Odds and play 3 chips on my birthday, number 23. I manage to spin the wheel a second before the tray of herbs and spices appears in front of me. Number 25. This time I collect on the Red and Odd and lose on the numbers. Posted on: February 9, 2009
