Pete sounded desperate when he called. I’ll never last 3 months with Betsy in the house. You have to help me. I took my laptop with me and on the drive over to Pete’s place thought of ways and means to get the old lady interested and addicted in quick order. Different people react differently to online gambling and who know what would entice the old lady? As soon as we had gone through the pleased-to-meet-you routine, I opened the laptop and logged into an online casino. I showed Betsy what I was doing and she was mildly interested. She watched in silence as I hit the slot machines and asked a few questions about how the progressive jackpot system worked. I moved onto blackjack and she commented that it seemed rather dry and very slow. She leaned forward when the roulette wheel appeared on the screen and asked if she could drop a few chips on the table. We played for a while and she won and lost small amounts of money. Then she asked what other games there were on the computer. I clicked my way over to the Texas Hold’em parlor and Betsy got quite excited when she saw the game. I love playing poker, she cried and I thought I had solved the addiction problem. She insisted in joining a game. She played well, betting and raising and calling like an old pro and after an hour showed a neat profit of almost $1,000. But then she said it was enough of the poker game and what else did I have to show her? I went back to the lobby of the online casino and then I found it. Bingo! Her eyes lit up when I muttered the word and she grabbed the laptop from me and elbowed me out of the way. Give me room to play, she yelled. And play she did. I didn’t have to show her anything, she knew about paying multiple cards, about the ‘automatic play’ button, in fact within a few minutes she was leading me through a brief course in online bingo. I went home without my laptop. I guess I’ll be without it for the next 3 months. Posted on: January 26, 2009
