The rain started on Thursday morning. It drizzled steadily all day. This was supposed to our gambling weekend. We both received hefty bonuses for our efforts in 2007 and we decided to take the money to the casino and see if we could double it – ‘turn it into major money’, was the expression we used. We were due to leave on Friday at noon, spend 2 days gambling and then drive back on Monday. By Friday noon the rain was pouring down. “Let’s stay home and gamble online instead,” I suggested.

“We’re always doing that,” said Janet. “I wanted to do something different, enjoy all that money we made.”
“Janet, I cannot drive in this rain and it looks like it will rain the whole weekend as well. Please let’s just gamble at home.”
“Okay, but it has to be serious gambling online. That means no fooling around, no strip poker gambling, no nonsense, got it? Those are the rules!”
So we unpacked the cases, ate the sandwiches we had made for the road, fired up the laptop and logged into the Silver Spanner, our favorite online casino. We decided that we would spend up to $5,000 each and that was to be a strict online gambling bankroll. The instant that that amount of money was gone, the gambling would stop.

We also decided that we would start on the slot machines to set the mood and get our blood racing. We found the progressive jackpot slots and played that for a while with little to show for it. The slots are always fun for the first 20 minutes of any online gambling session. Then we switched to roulette. I concentrated on the red/black, odds and evens and dozens, trying to double my money. Janet was more adventurous, dropping $20 chips across the table. She hit a single numbers, let he win ride for the spin and we watched breathlessly as it came up, bringing $24,000 with it. And that was the end of Janet’s gambling. She got very excited, threw her arms around me and hauled me off to the bedroom. She then proceeded to break all our rules.
