The laptop may not work for one reason or another, but on an oil survey job it comes with me anyway. A cell phone in the year 2008 means one can log into a mobile casino. I pack everything and head for the airport. My destination is a remote area of the Sinai Peninsula. Not all of Sinai is desert. The inner part of this piece of Egyptian land consists of high craggy mountains. Whether I can get a connection to an online casino from here is anyone’s guess. I will soon find out. This place is remote, all right. But it wasn’t always like this. This is where Moses is supposed to have spent part of his 40 years in the wilderness - in fact I am heading for one of the highest mountains, Mount Sinai, where Mo reputedly received the 10 commandments. Thou shall not gamble online or even offline was not one of those commandments, so on the first night after I have pitched my tent and filled in the report forms, I try and see if I can make a connection to an online casino. I do, but it is shaky and I lose it from time to time. I play Texas Hold’em, but I play only for fun. Imagine if I managed to put together a great hand like a full house or triple Aces and then I lose the connection in the final round of betting? Not even a very loud “Holy Moses!” could help in that situation. I play on and off until about two in the morning, brewing coffee on a small fire I have going outside the tent. Not that I am bored with the online gambling, but I always play to win and playing for fun doesn’t provide the same thrill, so my heart’s not in it. At four I hike a short distance and climb Mount Sinai to watch the sunrise. It is as dramatic and amazing as everyone has told me it will be. I will get back to the online gambling tonight.
